Yushan, Also known as Mount Yu, Is the highest peak in Taiwan and one of the most popular hiking spots in Asia. Standing at 3, 952 meters above sea level, Yushan is a majestic sight to behold. It’s located in the Yushan National Park which covers an area of 1050 square kilometers and is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. The name Yushan means Jade Mountain in Chinese due to its green-colored rocks that resemble jade. The mountain has four distinct seasons with snowy winters, Spring blossoms, Summer greens and autumn colors.

Hiking up Yushan can be challenging but rewarding for those who make it to the top. The trail takes about two days round trip and requires a permit that can be obtained online or at the park entrance. The hike up Yushan offers breathtaking views of Taiwan’s natural beauty including waterfalls, Rivers, Forests and wildlife such as Formosan black bears and Mikado pheasants. Along the way are several rest stops where hikers can take a break or camp overnight before continuing their ascent.

Atop Yushan is a small shelter where hikers can rest while enjoying panoramic views of Taiwan’s central mountain range including Xueshan (Snow Mountain), Hehuanshan (Hehuan Mountain) and Dabajianshan (Mount Dabajian). The summit also offers stunning sunrise views for those who wake up early enough. Aside from hiking, Visitors to Yushan National Park can enjoy other outdoor activities such as bird watching, Rock climbing or simply relaxing by one of its many hot springs. There are also several cultural sites within the park such as aboriginal villages that showcase Taiwan’s rich indigenous heritage.

  2. During World War II, Japanese forces occupied Yushan from 1942 to 1945.
  3. Today, Yushan is famous for producing high-quality tea.
  4. Some notable individuals from Yushan include writer and poet Chen Yinke (1890-1969) and politician Huang Ju (1938-2007). Huang Ju served as Vice Premier of China from 2003 until his death.

Although not widely known for its history or famous residents, Yushan remains an important cultural center in Jiangxi province and an important producer of tea.
