Abeokuta is a city in southwestern Nigeria and the capital of Ogun State. It has a population of approximately 700, 000 people. The name Abeokuta means under the rock and was derived from the Olumo Rock, A major tourist attraction in the city. The history of Abeokuta dates back to the early 19th century when it was founded by refugees fleeing from wars in neighboring areas. The Egba people who settled in Abeokuta were known for their bravery and resistance against colonialism.
