Aksu is a city in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, Located in the Tarim Basin between the Kunlun Mountains and Tian Shan Mountains. The city spans 131 square kilometers and has a population of over 500, 000 people. Aksu has a long history dating back to the Neolithic period and was an important center for trade along the Silk Road. As a result, It has been influenced by various cultures over time.

  1. The Battle of Aksu took place in 1854 during the Qing dynasty between the Chinese army and a group of Uyghur rebels led by Yaqub Beg. The Uyghurs were defeated, and Yaqub Beg fled to Kashgar.
  2. Bai Yanhu was a renowned Islamic scholar who lived in Aksu during the Qing dynasty. He was known for his expertise in Islamic law and his efforts to promote education among the Uyghur people.
  3. During World War II, Japanese troops massacred thousands of Uyghur people in Aksu Prefecture as part of their campaign to control Xinjiang, which is now an autonomous region in China.
