  1. The Battle of Chongshan occurred in 1645 during the Ming-Qing transition period. This battle was fought between Ming loyalists and Qing forces, resulting in victory for the Qing dynasty.
  2. Chen Baochen was a prominent scholar and politician from Chongshan who served as an official during the late Qing dynasty. He advocated for constitutional reform and modernization.
  3. Guo Moruo was a famous Chinese writer, poet, historian, archaeologist, and literary critic who spent part of his childhood in Chongshan.
  4. Yang Shixian was a general in the Chinese Nationalist Army who fought against Japanese invasion during World War II. He was born in Chongshan.
  5. The Nantong Massacre occurred during the Second Sino-Japanese War on December 10th 1937 when Japanese troops killed over 10,000 civilians including women and children who had taken refuge at Ginling College which had relocated to Nantung after fleeing Nanjing where they were originally based from Japanese attacks that occurred there earlier that year.
  6. Wang Daohan played an important role as president of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) improving relations between China and Taiwan during the 1990s. He was born in Chongshan.
