Ciputat is a lively city located in the Tangerang Regency of Banten Province, Indonesia. It’s only 25 kilometers southwest of Jakarta, The capital city of Indonesia. Ciputat has a population of roughly 500, 000 people and covers an area of approximately 38 square kilometers. The city is famous for its diverse culture and rich history. It was once a small fishing village but has since grown into one of the most important commercial centers in the region. Noteable History

  1. In 1985, Soekarno-Hatta Airport near Ciputat was attacked by terrorists. The Indonesian military successfully defeated them to prevent them from taking over the airport.
  2. Syarifah Hanum Siregar was an Indonesian feminist who fought for women’s rights during the early 20th century. She was born in Ciputat in 1898 and passed away in Jakarta in 1946.
  3. Indonesians celebrate Kartini Day on April 21st every year to honor Raden Ajeng Kartini, an Indonesian national heroine who fought for women’s education and emancipation during colonial times.
  4. Muhammad Hatta, one of Indonesia’s founding fathers, grew up in Ciputat before moving to Batavia (now Jakarta) for his education.
  5. In 2003, there was a bombing at Pondok Indah Mall II near Ciputat that resulted in twelve deaths and over one hundred injuries.
  6. Nurul Arifin served as Minister for State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform under President Joko Widodo’s administration from October 2019 until December 2020.

  9. Warung Tegal Mbah Wito- This place is known for their delicious nasi lemak which is rice cooked in coconut milk accompanied by fried chicken or egg along with some peanuts on top of it.
  10. Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut- This place offers authentic crispy duck dish which is marinated overnight before frying it to perfection served along with some rice on the side to make it more filling.
