Da’an is a city in Jilin Province, China. It covers an area of 3, 300 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 1 million people. The city is located at an elevation of 270 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains, Forests, And lakes. Da’an has a rich cultural heritage dating back to the Qing Dynasty. One of the main attractions in Da’an is the Changbai Mountain Range on the border between China and North Korea. The range includes peaks, Waterfalls, Hot springs, Glaciers, And volcanic craters.

Tianchi Lake sits at an altitude of over 2, 000 meters above sea level within this range. Jingbo Lake spans over an area of approximately 80 square kilometers and features crystal clear waters surrounded by lush green forests. Da’an also has several historical sites such as Shuangfeng Temple which dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). This temple features intricate carvings on its walls depicting Buddhist deities as well as beautiful gardens surrounding it. The Jilin Provincial Museum showcases artifacts from various periods throughout Chinese history including pottery, Bronze ware, Jade sculptures among others.

Noteable History

  1. The Battle of Wufengshan occurred on November 4, 1948, during the Chinese Civil War between the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Nationalist forces. PLA emerged victorious, gaining control over Da’an.
  2. Liu Shaoqi was an eminent Chinese Communist Party leader who served as Chairman of the People’s Republic of China from 1959 to 1968. He spent time in Da’an while participating in revolutionary activities.
  3. Zhang Xueliang was a Chinese warlord who held power over Manchuria during the early twentieth century and played an essential role in ending China’s civil war by negotiating peace between Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong in 1937.
  4. Wang Zhen was another significant Communist Party leader who contributed to establishing communist rule over China after World War II.
  5. During World War II, Japanese forces occupied much of Northeastern China, including Da’an County; however, many local residents participated in resistance activities against Japanese occupation.
  6. The Great Leap Forward campaign launched by Mao Zedong aimed to transform China’s economy through industrialization and collectivization rapidly; many residents of Da’an were involved in these efforts during late 1950s-early1960s.
  7. Mao launched another political campaign known as The Cultural Revolution from 1966 to1976 that aimed to eliminate capitalist elements from society while promoting revolutionary values among young people; many local residents were affected by this campaign too.
