Durgapur is a city located in the state of West Bengal, India. It is situated on the banks of the Damodar River and is known for its industrial development. The city was planned and developed in the 1950s by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, Who was the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. Durgapur is one of the fastest-growing cities in India, With a population of over 600, 000 people. The city has undergone significant development over recent years and has become an important economic hub in eastern India.

Durgapur’s economy is primarily driven by industries such as steel, Power generation, Cement production, Chemical manufacturing and heavy engineering. Apart from being an industrial hub, Durgapur also boasts several educational institutions including National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur which ranks among top engineering colleges in India.   10. The famous Bengali singer Manna De was born into a family that hailed from Krishnanagar but had moved to Kolkata by then. He went on to become one of India’s most celebrated singers having sung more than five thousand songs for films throughout his career spanning six decades. He passed away on October 24th 2013.
