The Great Pyramid of Giza was built over 4, 500 years ago as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It stands at an impressive height of 147 meters (481 feet), Making it one of history’s tallest man-made structures.

Over two million limestone blocks weighing up to 80 tons each were used to construct it. Beside Khufu’s pyramid lie two smaller pyramids belonging to his successors, Pharaohs Khafre and Menkaure respectively. These three pyramids form an iconic image that has come to represent ancient Egyptian civilization around the world. The Sphinx is another famous monument in Giza that draws tourists from all over the world. This giant statue depicts a mythical creature with a lion’s body and human head believed by some historians to represent Pharaoh Khafre himself.
