Hengzhou, Also known as Hengyang, Is a city in the Hunan province of China. It is located in the southern part of the province and has a population of approximately 7.5 million people. The city has a rich history that dates back to ancient times and is home to many cultural landmarks and attractions. One of its most notable landmarks is Mount Hengshan, One of China’s five sacred mountains, Located just outside the city. It attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to hike its scenic trails or visit its many temples and shrines.

Another popular attraction is Dongzhou Park with beautiful gardens, Lakes, Pavilions, And bridges offering stunning views of both Mount Hengshan and the Xiang River.   2. Liu Shaoqi: Liu Shaoqi was a prominent Chinese Communist Party leader who served as Chairman of the People’s Republic of China from 1959 to 1968. He was born in Ningxiang County, which is part of Hengzhou.
  3. Xie Juezai: Xie Juezai was a famous poet and scholar during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). He was born in modern-day Hengzhou and is considered one of Hunan’s most celebrated poets.
  4. Huang Yongyu: Huang Yongyu is a renowned contemporary artist who hails from Hengzhou. His works include paintings, calligraphy, and woodcuts that often depict traditional Chinese themes.
  5. Yang Kaihui: Yang Kaihui was Mao Zedong’s second wife and mother to his three children who were all born in Hengyang while Mao worked there during his early years as a revolutionary.
  6. Yue Fei: Yue Fei was a famous military general during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). He led many successful campaigns against invading armies but eventually fell out with his superiors and was executed for treason in what is now modern-day Hangzhou but he had strong connections with Hunan province including having been stationed at various times at military bases around present-day Changsha which lies just north-eastern corner on its border with Jiangxi province.
  7. Zhang Zhongjing: Zhang Zhongjing was a famous physician who lived during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD). He is known for his contributions to traditional Chinese medicine and is believed to have been born in Hengzhou.
