  2. Cai E: Cai E was a general who played an important role in the Xinhai Revolution of 1911, which overthrew the Qing dynasty and established the Republic of China. He was born in Hongjiang.
  3. Li Zongren: Li Zongren was a prominent military leader and politician during the Republican era of China (1912-1949). He served as Vice President under Chiang Kai-shek and later became one of the leaders of the anti-Japanese resistance during World War II. Li Zongren was also born in Hongjiang.
  4. The Red Army’s Long March: During their famous Long March from 1934 to 1935, Mao Zedong’s Red Army passed through Hongjiang.
