Huazhou is a county-level city located in Guangdong province, China. It borders Jiangxi and Fujian provinces and has a long history dating back to the Han dynasty. During the Tang dynasty, It was an important transportation hub. The city covers 1, 077 square kilometers and has over 600, 000 inhabitants. Its climate is subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. Agriculture is one of its main industries due to abundant rainfall and fertile soil. Huazhou features several cultural landmarks such as Xinghua Temple built during the Tang dynasty, Which has been well-preserved over time.

The Guan Yin Mountain Scenic Area also boasts a statue of Guan Yin standing at 108 meters tall. Local cuisine includes seafood and Hua County Chicken marinated with soy sauce, Ginger, Garlic, Sugar, And other spices before being roasted over charcoal fire. Noteable History

  1. In 1927, thousands of Communist Party members and sympathizers were killed in Huazhou by the Nationalist government during the Chinese Civil War, an event known as the Huazhou Massacre.
  2. Liang Qichao, a renowned scholar and reformer in modern Chinese history, was born in Huazhou in 1873.
  3. Chen Fangyun, a famous calligrapher and painter, was also born in Huazhou in 1890.
  4. Xie Jin, one of China’s most acclaimed film directors, was born in Shanghang village within the district of Huazhou in 1923.
  5. The Battle of Hengyang took place during World War II and lasted from August to December 1944. It occurred within present-day Huazhou and resulted in a decisive victory for the Chinese army.
  6. Deng Xiaoping spent time studying at a school located within present-day Huazhou during his youth although he is not directly associated with it.
  7. Wang Yangming visited Huazhou several times throughout his life as it held cultural significance for him due to its natural beauty which he wrote about extensively as a prominent philosopher during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
  8. Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi visited Huaizhuo on several occasions as part of his travels throughout southern China according to historical records.
  9. The Huangchao Liqi Tushi (皇朝礼器图式) is an illustrated book on ceremonial regulations compiled by officials under Emperor Qianlong’s orders between AD1750-1765 that contains detailed drawings of imperial robes worn by emperors over centuries including those worn by Emperor Kangxi who passed away at Chengde Mountain Resort in 1722.
