Itele is a small town located in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. It is situated on the outskirts of Lagos, The commercial capital of Nigeria and is known for its vibrant culture and traditional practices. The town has a population of approximately 10, 000 people who are predominantly Yoruba-speaking. One notable feature about Itele is its rich cultural heritage. The town is home to several festivals that attract visitors from far and wide. One such festival is the annual Egungun Festival which celebrates the ancestors and their contributions to society.
During this festival, Masquerades dress up in elaborate costumes and dance through the streets accompanied by drumming and singing. Itele also boasts some interesting landmarks such as the Ijamido River which flows through the town providing a source of water for irrigation farming activities. There are also several historical sites such as ancient shrines that have been preserved over time. The economy of Itele revolves around agriculture with most residents engaging in subsistence farming activities such as cassava cultivation, Poultry farming, And fishing.
The town has fertile soil which makes it ideal for growing crops like yam, Plantain, Maize, Vegetables among others. In recent times however there has been an increase in industrialization with companies setting up factories within close proximity to Itele due to its strategic location near Lagos port city which makes it easy for goods to be transported across Nigeria’s vast network of roads.
