Jūnāgadh is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, Located at the foothills of Mount Girnar. It has a rich cultural heritage and has been ruled by various dynasties such as Mauryas, Guptas, Chudasamas and Mughals before being taken over by the British. The city is renowned for its historical significance and boasts several ancient monuments such as Uparkot Fort, Mahabat Maqbara, Adi Kadi Vav among others. The Uparkot fort stands tall on a plateau overlooking the city and dates back to the 3rd century BC.
It has numerous temples inside it like Jain temples which are believed to be around 2000 years old. Mahabat Maqbara reflects Islamic architecture with its intricate carvings and designs. This mausoleum was built in the late 19th century by Nawab Mahabat Khan II who ruled over Jūnāgadh for many years. Adi Kadi Vav or Navghan Kuvo is an ancient stepwell that dates back to the 11th century AD. It was built during the reign of Solanki dynasty ruler Kumarapala who was known for his love for art and architecture.
