Kaiyuan is a city located in the Liaoning Province of China. It covers an area of about 4, 800 square kilometers and has a population of over 300, 000 people. 1. Kaiyuan Temple was constructed in 686 AD during the Tang Dynasty and served as a center for Buddhist learning.

6. During the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), many buildings at the Kaiyuan Temple were reconstructed or renovated including its main hall which still stands today.
