Khammam is a district located in the southeastern part of India, In the Indian state of Telangana. The district is surrounded by hills and forests and is situated on the banks of the river Godavari. Evidence of human habitation found during various excavations indicates a rich history dating back to ancient times. One of Khammam’s major attractions is the Khammam Fort, Built during the Kakatiya dynasty. It stands tall on a hilltop overlooking the city and provides an excellent panoramic view.

Another popular attraction is Papi Hills near Bhadrachalam town, Known for its scenic beauty that makes it ideal for trekking and camping. Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 635 square kilometers and houses numerous flora and fauna species like tigers, Leopards, Sloth bears, Sambar deer among others. The region around Khammam has been known for its handloom industry since ancient times producing exquisite cotton sarees sold under various brand names like Mangalagiri sarees or Gadwal sarees across India.

The town also has several temples attracting pilgrims from all over India such as Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadagirigutta or Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam.   1. Khammam Fort is a historical fort located in the heart of the city, built by the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century and later occupied by various rulers such as the Qutub Shahi dynasty, Asaf Jahis, and British.
  2. Sir Arthur Cotton was a British engineer who played a significant role in developing irrigation systems in India during the 19th century. He was instrumental in building several dams and canals including the Dowleswaram Barrage on Godavari River.
  3. Kaloji Narayana Rao was a prominent Telugu poet, writer, freedom fighter, and political activist from Telangana region known for his contributions to Telugu literature and his involvement in the Telangana movement.
  4. P.V.Narasimha Rao was an Indian politician who served as Prime Minister of India from 1991 to 1996 hailing from Vangara village near Khammam town.
  5. Rani Rudrama Devi was one of the most famous rulers of Kakatiya dynasty who ruled over parts of present-day Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during 13th century AD.
  6. Bhakta Ramadasu or Kancharla Gopanna composed several devotional songs (keertanas) dedicated to Lord Rama during 17th century AD.

  3. Sammakka Sarakka Jatara is a biennial tribal festival held at Medaram village near Khammam district to honor the tribal deities Sammakka and Saralamma with huge processions, rituals, and cultural programs.
  4. Dasara Festival takes place over ten days in Khammam during October or November to mark the victory of good over evil. The city comes alive with colorful decorations, music, dance performances, and fairs.
