Kukawa is a town located in Borno State, Nigeria, Situated on the banks of Lake Chad. The town has a population of around 10, 000 people and is primarily inhabited by Kanuri people who are known for their cultural heritage. Kukawa was once an important center for the Kanem-Bornu Empire during the medieval period due to its strategic location near Lake Chad. Several historical landmarks exist in Kukawa including Kukawa Palace and Ngala Wildlife Reserve. Unfortunately, Extremist groups like Boko Haram have caused violence that has affected Kukawa in recent years.
