Laâyoune is a city located in the southern part of Morocco, Near the border with Western Sahara. It is the largest city in this region and serves as the capital of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra province. The city has a population of approximately 217, 732 people according to recent estimates. The history of Laâyoune dates back to the early 20th century when it was established as a military outpost by Spanish colonizers. In 1940, It became an important center for phosphate mining which led to its rapid growth and development.
