The city has a population of over 200, 000 people and is located around 250 kilometers south of Addis Ababa. Shashemenē is famous for its cultural heritage and natural beauty. The King Haile Selassie I Memorial Museum is one of the most prominent landmarks in Shashemenē. It was established to honor the former Ethiopian emperor who was born in this region.
