The city is situated in the province of Haut-Katanga and is approximately 300 kilometers from the capital, Kinshasa. It was originally established as a mining town during the colonial era and has since become one of Congo’s most important industrial centers. The city’s economy revolves around copper and cobalt mining, With several large mining companies operating in the area. These mines have played a significant role in shaping Likasi’s history, As they were responsible for attracting European settlers to the region during colonial times.

One of Likasi’s most notable features is its beautiful architecture. Many buildings constructed during the Belgian colonial period still stand today, Including several art deco-style structures that are unique to this part of Africa.
