Bārākpur is a historic city located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India. The city has a rich cultural heritage dating back to pre-colonial times. Its name comes from two Bengali words meaning twelve wells, Which supplied water to travelers passing through. One of the main attractions in Bārākpur is the Bārakpore Cantonment, Established by British East India Company as a military garrison in 1772. It played an important role during India’s struggle for independence and houses several army units today.

Gandhi Ghat is another notable landmark named after Mahatma Gandhi who had visited this place during his final journey from Kolkata to Delhi on January 31st, 1948. The city also has several other historical sites such as Mangal Pandey Park, St Stephen’s Church, Kali Temple and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram.
