Niiza is a city located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, Just 30 minutes away from Tokyo. The city has a population of around 160, 000 people and covers an area of approximately 20 square kilometers. Niiza is renowned for its stunning parks, Traditional Japanese architecture and rich cultural heritage. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Niiza is the Hikawa Shrine which dates back to the early 8th century. This shrine pays homage to Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto, The god of war. 1. Niiza City was established on April 1, 1972, after the merger of three towns: Niiza, Kōyama and Ōya.
2. The area around Niiza has been inhabited since ancient times. During the Kamakura period (1185–1333), it was a center for agriculture and commerce.
3. In the Edo period (1603–1868), Niiza was part of Musashi Province and was known for its production of silk fabrics.
4. One notable person associated with Niiza is Shigeru Yoshida (1878–1967), who served as Prime Minister of Japan from 1946 to 1947 and from 1948 to 1954. Yoshida lived in a house in Niiza during his retirement years.
