Thingangyun is a township in the eastern part of Yangon, Myanmar with a population of over 300, 000 people. The name Thingangyun means silver water in Burmese, Referring to a small stream running through the area. The township is known for its bustling markets and shops selling fresh produce, Clothes and electronics. Thiri Mingalar Market is one of the most popular markets offering affordable goods and local delicacies such as Mohinga (rice noodle soup) and Shan Noodles. Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda houses a massive marble Buddha statue standing at 37 feet tall.

It was built in 2000 and has become one of the most visited sites in Yangon. Thingangyun also has several parks where locals can relax or exercise. Thuwunna Park features an artificial lake surrounded by lush greenery with facilities for sports such as basketball, Tennis, And football. 1. The 8888 Uprising: In August 1988, students and activists in Thingangyun led protests against the military government, which eventually spread throughout the country.
2. Aung San Suu Kyi: The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former State Counsellor of Myanmar spent many years under house arrest in her home in Thingangyun.
3. Thakin Kodaw Hmaing: A famous Burmese poet and independence activist who lived in Thingangyun until his death in 1964.
4. Bo Hmu Aung: An important leader of the Burmese independence movement who was born in Thingangyun.
5. Yangon Technological University: One of Myanmar’s top engineering schools is located in Thingangyun, providing education to many future engineers and professionals.
6. Sule Pagoda Bombing: In 2013, a bomb exploded near Sule Pagoda, which is located near Thingangyun’s border with Yangon city center, killing two people and injuring several others.
