Maseru is the capital city of Lesotho, A landlocked country situated on the banks of the Caledon River. The city has a population of over 330, 000 people and serves as both the economic and political center of Lesotho. The history of Maseru dates back to the early 19th century when Chief Masereka Lepheane founded it. However, It wasn’t until 1869 that Maseru became an important trading post for Basotho traders who sold their goods to European settlers in South Africa. 1. Basutoland, now known as Lesotho, became a British protectorate in 1868 after King Moshoeshoe I requested protection from neighboring tribes.
