Moçâmedes is a coastal city situated in the southwest of Angola, At the mouth of the Namibe River. It serves as the capital of Namibe Province and has a population of around 150, 000 people. The city was established by Portuguese colonizers in 1840 and was named after Moçambique Island, Which was an important trading center for Portugal at that time.
