Ning’an, Situated in the northeastern part of China’s Heilongjiang Province, Is a beautiful city with lush green mountains and the Songhua River. It has a rich history dating back to the Qing Dynasty and was once an important center for trade and commerce.     Noteable History

    1. Ning’an was founded during the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234) as a military fortress to protect against Mongol invasions.
    2. The Battle of Ningyuan took place near Ning’an in 1211 between the Jin Dynasty and the Mongol Empire, resulting in a series of defeats that led to the eventual collapse of their empire.
    3. Emperor Qianlong visited Ning’an during his tour of northern China in 1751 and ordered several improvements to be made due to its strategic location.
    4. Li Hongzhang served as governor of northeastern China, including at Ning’an, during his career as a prominent statesman and military leader during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
    5. Japan occupied much of northeastern China, including Ning’an from 1931-1945 during World War II.
    6. Heilongjiang Province was established with Harbin as its capital and included Ning’an as one of its counties in 1949.
    7. Wang Yangming visited Ning’an in 1527 and wrote about his experiences there in his book “Recorded Conversations” while he was a prominent philosopher during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
    8. Zhang Xueliang was exiled to various locations including prison camps near Ning’an until his release in 1988 after he attempted to overthrow Chiang Kai-shek’s government in 1936; he controlled much of northern China early on.
    9. In 2002, comprehensive university offering degrees such as agriculture, engineering, education were established by creating Ning’an University.
    10. The Yalu River Nature Reserve is located near Ning’an which is home to diverse plant & animal species including endangered Siberian tiger; it covers an area over1000 square kilometers since its establishment back on1981.
