Quzhou is a city in Zhejiang Province, China. It covers an area of 8, 845 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 2.5 million people. The Qu River and the Ou River intersect in the city, Which has shaped its history and culture. The city has a rich history that dates back over 2, 000 years to the Qin Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, It became an important center for trade and commerce due to its strategic location between Hangzhou and Guangzhou. Today, Quzhou is known for producing tea, Bamboo products, Textiles, Machinery parts, And pharmaceuticals.

  1. The Battle of Mount Qi occurred in 684 AD during the Tang Dynasty, pitting rebel leader Li Zitong against Emperor Gaozong’s Tang army. The battle ended with a decisive victory for the Tang army, which helped secure their rule over southern China.
  2. Lu Xun was a renowned writer, poet, and essayist who is widely regarded as one of the most significant figures in modern Chinese literature. He hailed from Shaoxing near Quzhou and spent much of his early life in the area.
  3. Wang Yangming was a philosopher and general who lived during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). His teachings on moral cultivation and self-awareness had a profound impact on Chinese philosophy.
  4. The Taiping Rebellion was one of history’s deadliest civil wars that raged from 1850 to 1864. Although Quzhou itself played no major role in this conflict, it was situated close to several key battlegrounds.
  5. Xu Xiake was an acclaimed geographer and travel writer who lived during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). He extensively explored China throughout his lifetime and wrote detailed accounts of his journeys that remain studied today.
