Round Lake Beach is a charming village in Lake County, Illinois with a population of around 28, 000 people. It is known for its beautiful parks, Scenic lakes and friendly community. The village is situated near the shores of Round Lake and Long Lake which provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing, Boating, Swimming and hiking. One of the most popular attractions in Round Lake Beach is the Round Lake Park District which offers various programs and activities for people of all ages.

    Noteable History

    1. The area now known as Round Lake Beach was originally home to Native American tribes such as the Potawatomi and Miami.
    2. European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century and established farms in the area.
    3. In 1908, a group of Chicago businessmen purchased land and formed the Round Lake Beach Company with plans to develop a resort community.
    4. The first homes were constructed in 1910, and by 1920 there were over 200 cottages and multiple hotels.
    5. During World War II, soldiers stationed at nearby Great Lakes Naval Station frequently visited Round Lake Beach on their weekends off.
    6. In the 1950s and ’60s, Round Lake Beach experienced significant growth as more people moved to suburban areas outside of Chicago.
    7. Notable individuals associated with Round Lake Beach include former NFL player Mike Tomczak who grew up there, musician John Prine who lived there for a time, and author Sara Paretsky who set her novel Bitter Medicine in Round Lake Beach under a thinly disguised name (Lakeside).
