- The area now known as Round Lake Beach was originally home to Native American tribes such as the Potawatomi and Miami.
- European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century and established farms in the area.
- In 1908, a group of Chicago businessmen purchased land and formed the Round Lake Beach Company with plans to develop a resort community.
- The first homes were constructed in 1910, and by 1920 there were over 200 cottages and multiple hotels.
- During World War II, soldiers stationed at nearby Great Lakes Naval Station frequently visited Round Lake Beach on their weekends off.
