  1. Saltillo was founded in 1577 by Spanish colonizers led by Alberto del Canto.

  3. In 1847, during the Mexican-American War, the Battle of Buena Vista took place near Saltillo. General Zachary Taylor’s American forces defeated a larger Mexican army led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
  4. Venustiano Carranza, who served as President of Mexico from 1915 to 1920, was born in Cuatro Ciénegas, a town near Saltillo.

  2. Algodoneros de Unión Laguna is another professional baseball team that originally operated out of Torreón but moved to Saltillo in the late ’90s. They have won two championships (1953 and 1996) and are presently part of the Northern League.
