Sumqayıt is a city located on the Absheron Peninsula in Azerbaijan. It is the third-largest city in the country, After Baku and Ganja, With a population of around 350, 000 people. Sumqayıt was founded in 1949 as an industrial town to support the development of Azerbaijan’s oil industry. The city’s name comes from the Azerbaijani word for sandwich, As it is located between two major cities – Baku and Quba. Sumqayıt has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Archaeological excavations have revealed that people have been living in this area since at least the Bronze Age.

During medieval times, Sumqayıt was an important center for trade and commerce due to its strategic location on the Caspian Sea. Today, Sumqayıt is known for its heavy industry and manufacturing sector. The city has several large factories producing chemicals, Textiles, And machinery.
