Trichinopoly, Also known as Tiruchirappalli, Is a city located in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The city is situated on the banks of the Kaveri River and is surrounded by hills on all sides. Trichinopoly has a rich history that dates back to the 3rd century BC and has been ruled by various dynasties such as Cholas, Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayaks and British. One of the major attractions in Trichinopoly is its famous Rock Fort Temple. This temple complex sits atop an enormous rock that rises 83 meters above sea level.

It consists of two main temples – Ucchi Pillayar Temple and Thayumanavar Temple – both dedicated to Lord Shiva. The climb up to the top can be challenging but it’s worth it for stunning views over the city. Another popular attraction in Trichinopoly is Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple which is one of the largest Hindu temples in India. This temple complex covers an area of 156 acres with seven concentric walls and 21 towers known as gopurams. The temple was built during the Chola dynasty in honor of Lord Vishnu and attracts millions of visitors every year.

  7. Sarojini Naidu visited Tiruchirapalli as part of her tour to South India in 1926 where she talked about women’s education while addressing students and faculty members of National College, Trichinopoly.
  8. Bharathidasan was a famous Tamil poet who lived in Trichinopoly during the early twentieth century. His works are still popular among Tamil readers, and he was associated with several other writers such as Pudhumaipithan, Kalki Krishnamurthy, and R.K.Narayan.
  9. Rajaji – C.Rajagopalachari who became India’s first Indian Governor General after Independence was born in Thorapalli village near Hosur but his family moved to Tiruchirappalli soon after his birth where he spent most of his childhood years.
  10. Ulaganatha Swamigal: Ulaganatha Swamigal (1855-1944) lived in Tiruchirappalli serving people by offering food, shelter and spiritual guidance to all irrespective of caste or religion.
