Tukuyu is a small town situated in the Mbeya region of Tanzania, At the foothills of the Livingstone Mountains. The Eastern Arc Mountains are also part of this area. With a population of around 100, 000 people, Tukuyu is known for its thriving agriculture. The primary economic activity in Tukuyu is farming, With coffee being the main crop produced here. Other crops grown include bananas, Avocados, Maize and beans. The fertile soil and favorable climate conditions make it an ideal location for agriculture.

Tukuyu serves as a gateway to some of Tanzania’s most beautiful natural attractions such as Lake Nyasa (also referred to as Lake Malawi), Kitulo Plateau National Park and Livingstone Mountain Forest Reserve. Tourists can enjoy hiking trails through lush green forests while enjoying stunning views of waterfalls cascading down mountain slopes. Visitors can explore several cultural sites in Tukuyu such as the Mbozi Meteorite Site Museum which showcases one of Africa’s largest meteorites that fell over 80, 000 years ago.

Another fascinating cultural site is Luhira Rock Paintings located near Kitulo Plateau National Park which date back over 2, 000 years ago. In addition to its natural beauty and cultural sites, Tukuyu has several modern amenities including restaurants serving local cuisine made from fresh produce grown locally. 1. Tukuyu was under German colonial rule from the late 19th century until World War I.
2. In 1905, the people of Tukuyu and surrounding areas participated in the Maji Maji rebellion against German colonial rule.
3. After World War I, Tukuyu became part of British East Africa and remained under British colonial rule until Tanzania gained independence in 1961.
4. Julius Nyerere visited Tukuyu in 1970 to launch a program to improve agriculture and education in the region.
5. The Rungwe Mountain is located near Tukuyu and is known for its volcanic activity and unique flora and fauna.
6. Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a public university located in nearby Mbeya city that offers undergraduate and graduate programs in science, engineering, technology, business, social sciences, and humanities.
7. Tukuyu is known for its tea production industry which has been a major source of income for local farmers since the early 20th century.
8. Lake Nyasa/Malawi borders Tanzania to the south-eastern side near Tukuyu town which provides recreational activities such as fishing as well as tourism opportunities with neighboring countries like Mozambique on its eastern shore.
9. The Mbozi meteorite fall site is approximately 30 km north-west of Tukuyu town where one can see an impact crater believed to have been formed by a meteorite that fell on earth about 180 million years ago.
10. Kiwira Coal Mine was established by Tanzanian government around early-2000s in the area near Tukuyu town.

7. Ruhija Tea Estate: This tea plantation provides tours where visitors can learn about how tea is grown and processed while enjoying some freshly brewed tea on site.
