Wanyuan is a beautiful city located in the northeastern part of Sichuan Province, China. It is situated at the intersection of three provinces: Sichuan, Chongqing, And Shaanxi. Noteable History

  1. The Battle of Xinganxian occurred in 1649 during the Ming-Qing transition period. The battle took place between Manchu Qing dynasty forces and Ming loyalists led by Li Dingguo. Despite being outnumbered, Li’s troops managed to hold off the Qing army for several days before ultimately being defeated.
  2. Zhang Daqian was a renowned Chinese painter born in Neijiang but spent much of his childhood in Wanyuan. He is known for his innovative techniques and diverse styles that drew inspiration from both traditional Chinese painting and Western art.
  3. Ma Jianzhong was a prominent military leader during the Chinese Civil War who played a key role in defeating Nationalist forces in Sichuan province. He later served as governor of Sichuan from 1950 to 1952.
  4. On May 12, 2008, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale struck Wenchuan County adjacent to Wanyuan city causing widespread damage and loss of life throughout the region.
  5. Wang Jianlin is a billionaire businessman who founded Dalian Wanda Group, one of China’s largest conglomerates with interests ranging from real estate to entertainment. Wang grew up impoverished in rural Sichuan before making his fortune through savvy investments and business ventures.
  6. The Tangshan Earthquake happened on July 28th,1976,killing over two hundred thousand people. Wanyuan was also affected by this earthquake suffering significant damage as well.
