The city covers an area of 13, 283 square kilometers and has a population of over 4 million people. The history of Yibin dates back to more than 2000 years ago when it was known as Xuzhou during the Han Dynasty. The city played an important role in ancient China as a center for trade and commerce due to its strategic location near major waterways.
