Zhangjiakou is a city located in the northern part of Hebei Province, China. It sits at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The city has a population of over 4 million people and covers an area of approximately 37, 000 square kilometers. The history of Zhangjiakou dates back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD), When it was known as Kalgan. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), It became an important trading post between China and Mongolia.

In the early 20th century, It was occupied by Russia during the Russo-Japanese War and later by Japan during World War II. Today, Zhangjiakou is renowned for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. It boasts several scenic spots such as Bashang Grassland, Xuanhua Ancient City, Guyuan Ancient City Wall, And Wanlong Ski Resort. The Bashang Grassland covers an area of more than 3500 square kilometers and features rolling hills covered with grasses that change color throughout the year. Xuanhua Ancient City is a well-preserved ancient city that dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

It has a history spanning over 1300 years and features many historic buildings such as temples, Pagodas, Bridges, Towers etc. Guyuan Ancient City Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to protect against Mongol invasions. It stretches for over four kilometers around Guyuan County town with gates at each cardinal point.
