Zhangshu is a city located in Jiangxi province, China. It has a population of over 400, 000 people and covers an area of approximately 1, 800 square kilometers. The city has a rich history that dates back to ancient times and played an important role in China’s economy. Mount Sanqing National Park is one of the most notable landmarks in Zhangshu. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features three main peaks representing the Taoist trinity with lush forests, Waterfalls, And unique rock formations.

Lushan Hot Springs Resort is another popular attraction where visitors can relax in natural hot springs while enjoying breathtaking views of Lushan Mountain. The resort also offers world-class spa facilities that provide various treatments such as massages and aromatherapy sessions. Tengwang Pavilion and Xianrendong Cave Art Site Museum are two cultural sites worth visiting in Zhangshu. Tengwang Pavilion offers panoramic views of Poyang Lake while showcasing traditional Chinese architecture with a history spanning over 1, 300 years. Xianrendong Cave Art Site Museum houses some of China’s oldest known cave paintings dating back over 10 thousand years.

Noteable History

  1. Zhangshu was founded during the Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) by Emperor Wu.
  2. The Battle of Zhangshu took place during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 CE) between the forces of Wei and Shu, with Shu emerging victorious.
  3. Yuan Chonghuan, a famous military strategist and general from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), was born in Zhangshu.
  4. Chen Yi, a prominent Communist leader during China’s civil war who served as Mayor of Shanghai and later as Foreign Minister under Mao Zedong, was also born in Zhangshu.
  5. During World War II, Japanese forces occupied Zhangshu for several years before being liberated by Chinese troops in 1945.
  6. In 1966, Mao Zedong launched a political movement known as the Cultural Revolution which had a significant impact on people living in rural areas like Zhangshu.
  7. China began implementing economic reforms in the late 1970s and early 1980s that transformed its economy from a planned system to a market-oriented one, which had an impact on people living in places like Zhangshu.
  8. Wang Jialie is a famous Chinese writer who wrote about life in rural China and spent much of his childhood in Zhangshu while setting many of his stories there.

  2. It is a small city with a population of around 450,000 people located in the Jiangxi province of China.
  3. The city has several sports facilities such as stadiums and gyms for various sports activities including basketball, football (soccer), table tennis, badminton and more.
  4. However, there are no professional or well-known sports teams that represent the city on a national or international level.


Cultural Events

  1. The Zhangshu International Dragon Boat Festival occurs in June during the Dragon Boat Festival and includes dragon boat races, traditional performances, and food stalls.
