The name Dolgoprudnyy means long pond in Russian, Referring to the many small lakes and ponds that dot the landscape. The city is home to the prestigious Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Founded in 1946 and known for its excellence in science and engineering. Many famous scientists, Including Nobel laureates, Have studied at MIPT over the years.
