Esmeraldas is a province situated on the northwestern coast of Ecuador, Sharing its borders with Colombia to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The region has been named after its most famous gemstone, Emerald, Which was once found in abundance here. Esmeraldas is renowned for its stunning beaches, Dense forests, Vibrant culture and Afro-Ecuadorian heritage. The capital city of Esmeraldas shares its name with the province and is a bustling port town that provides visitors with an authentic experience of local life.

The city has a rich history dating back to pre-Columbian times when it was inhabited by indigenous tribes such as Chachi and Tsáchila. Later on, During colonial times, African slaves were brought here to work in gold mines and plantations.
