Hezuo is a small city located in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, In the southern part of Gansu Province, China. It sits at an altitude of 2, 900 meters above sea level and has a population of around 120, 000 people. The city is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush green forests that provide breathtaking scenery. Due to its location on the ancient Silk Road trade route, Hezuo has a rich cultural heritage influenced by both Chinese and Tibetan cultures over the centuries.

  1. Labrang Monastery: It is one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism and was founded in 1709 by Ngawang Tsondru. The monastery has played an important role in preserving Tibetan culture and religion.
  2. Thubten Jigme Norbu: He was born in Lhasa, Tibet and spent much of his life advocating for the independence of Tibet from Chinese rule. He lived in exile in the United States where he taught at Indiana University.
