Kabwe is a city in the central part of Zambia with a population of approximately 220, 000 people. It was founded in the early 1900s after lead and zinc were discovered in the area and is also known as Broken Hill due to its proximity to a hill that was used as a landmark by European explorers. The mining industry played an important role in Kabwe’s development but has also had negative effects on the environment and public health. Lead poisoning from mining activities has affected many residents, Particularly children who are more vulnerable to its effects.
The government has taken steps to address this issue, Including relocating affected families and cleaning up contaminated areas. Despite these challenges, Kabwe remains an essential economic hub for Zambia. The city is home to several industries such as agriculture, Manufacturing, And commerce. Its location at major highways’ crossroads makes it an ideal transportation hub for goods traveling across Zambia.
