Malkajgiri is a busy suburb located in the northeastern part of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It boasts of its rich cultural heritage and diverse population. The town has a population of approximately 5 lakh people and covers an area of around 22 square kilometers. The name Malkajgiri is derived from two Telugu words – ‘malla’ meaning wrestler and ‘kshetra’ meaning place or field. Legend has it that this place was once home to many wrestlers who used to train here, The name Malkajgiri.

Malkajgiri has a rich historical significance as it was ruled by various dynasties such as the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, And Qutb Shahis. During the Nizam era, It served as an important trading center for textiles and handicrafts. One of the major attractions in Malkajgiri is Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple which dates back over 500 years old. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s avatar Narasimha Swamy who killed Hiranyakashipu (a demon king) to save his devotee Prahlada. The temple architecture reflects a blend of South Indian and North Indian styles with intricate carvings on walls and pillars.

Another popular attraction in Malkajgiri is Pedda Cheruvu Lake which spans across an area of 36 acres. This lake serves as a recreational spot for locals where they can enjoy boating or simply stroll around its serene surroundings. Being situated close to Hyderabad city’s IT hub – HITEC City – Malkajgiri has seen rapid growth in recent years with several residential projects coming up making it one of the most sought-after locations among homebuyers.
