Msaken is a charming town located in the Sousse Governorate of Tunisia, Around 20 kilometers away from the coastal city of Sousse. With a population of approximately 70, 000 people, Msaken is known for its bustling markets, Historical landmarks and picturesque landscapes. One of the most popular attractions in Msaken is its weekly market that takes place every Friday. Visitors can explore a range of products such as fresh produce and handmade crafts and clothing. The market attracts tourists from all over Tunisia and offers an excellent opportunity to experience local culture.

Another noteworthy attraction in Msaken is the Ribat of Msaken which was built during the 9th century AD by Arab warriors as a defense against invaders. It served as an important military base during various periods throughout history. For those who are interested in religious history, There are several mosques worth visiting including the Great Mosque of Msaken which dates back to 1926.   1. Battle of Mactar: In 203 BC, the Battle of Mactar was fought near Msaken between Carthaginian forces led by Hannibal Barca and Roman forces led by Publius Cornelius Scipio.
  2. Abu al-Qasim al-Shabbi: A famous Tunisian poet and nationalist, Abu al-Qasim al-Shabbi was born in Msaken in 1909. He is known for his patriotic poems that were instrumental in Tunisia’s independence movement.
  3. French colonization: Msaken was colonized by France in the late 19th century and remained under French control until Tunisia gained independence in 1956.
  4. World War II: During World War II, Msaken served as a strategic location for both Allied and Axis powers due to its proximity to important transportation routes.
  5. Mohamed Bouazizi: The self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, a street vendor from Sidi Bouzid (near Msaken), sparked the Tunisian Revolution in December 2010 which eventually led to the overthrow of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
  6. Sousse attack: In June 2015, a terrorist attack took place at a beach resort near Sousse (close to Msaken) killing over thirty people including several British tourists.
