Mykolaiv, Also known as Nikolaev, Is a city in southern Ukraine situated on the banks of the Southern Bug River. It has a population of approximately 500, 000 people and was founded in 1789 by Catherine the Great as a shipbuilding center for the Russian Navy. The city has many notable landmarks that reflect its past and rich history. The St. Nicholas Cathedral is one such landmark, Built in the early 19th century and one of Mykolaiv’s oldest buildings. Another important site is Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding that has been training specialists for shipbuilding since 1920.

Mykolaiv’s economy revolves around its shipbuilding industry that remains one of Ukraine’s largest industries to this day. The city also has an agricultural sector producing wheat, Corn, Sunflowers, And other crops. 1. FC Mykolaiv – Established in 1920, FC Mykolaiv is the city’s oldest and most renowned football club. Over the years, the team has competed in various Ukrainian leagues including the Ukrainian Premier League but currently participates in the Ukrainian Second League.
2. BC Budivelnyk – Founded as a multi-sport club in 1963, Budivelnyk became famous for its successful basketball team that won multiple national championships and participated internationally. The team was disbanded due to financial difficulties in 2014 but was revived two years later as BC Mykolaiv.
3. SC Tavriya Simferopol (Mykolaiv branch) – When Crimea was annexed by Russia back in 2014, Tavriya Simferopol’s home stadium became unusable due to political tensions leading to temporary relocation of this team to Mykolaiv where it played its home matches at FC Mykolayv’s stadium until it dissolved altogether.
4. HC Black Sea Stars – Originated as an ice hockey club based out of nearby Kherson Oblast back in 2007; however, Black Sea Stars moved to Mykolayv several years later due to better facilities and fan support.
