Rishra is a city in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. It sits on the banks of the river Hooghly and is just 15 km away from Kolkata. The city has a long history dating back to the British era when it was known as Reesher or Reshire. During this time, Rishra was an important center for jute mills and textile industries.
