Tādepallegūdem is a small town in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The town is located on the banks of the river Godavari and surrounded by lush green fields and coconut groves. The name Tādepallegūdem means the village of palm trees in Telugu, Which is the local language spoken in Andhra Pradesh. The town is renowned for its traditional handicrafts such as Kondapalli toys made from lightweight wood and painted with bright colors. Kalamkari art, A hand-painted cotton or silk fabric using natural dyes, Is another famous handicraft from Tādepallegūdem.

Tādepallegūdem has several temples that attract devotees from all over the state, Including Sri Seetharama Swamy Temple dedicated to Lord Rama built during the 16th century by Sri Vallabha Ganapati Deekshitulu. Noteable History

  1. Tādepallegūdem is well-known for being the birthplace of Sri Sri, a renowned Telugu poet and writer who was born there in 1910 and spent his early years in the town.
  2. During India’s struggle for independence from British rule, Tādepallegūdem played an important role as many freedom fighters from the area participated in non-violent protests led by Mahatma Gandhi.
  3. Unfortunately, Tādepallegūdem also witnessed a major communal riot between Hindus and Muslims in 1946 that resulted in several deaths and widespread destruction of property.
  4. The town has a rich cultural heritage with its traditional classical dance form called Kuchipudi being particularly famous. Many renowned Kuchipudi dancers have hailed from Tādepallegūdem.
  5. In recent years, significant development has taken place with industries such as paper mills, sugar factories and pharmaceutical companies establishing themselves in the town.
  6. Dr Gogineni Ranga Nayudu is another notable person associated with Tādepallegūdem who played a key role in Andhra Pradesh’s statehood movement.
