Tāluqān is a city situated in the northern province of Takhar, Afghanistan. It has a population of approximately 200, 000 people and is located on the banks of the Kunduz River. The city has a long history dating back to ancient times and was once an important center for trade between Central Asia and South Asia. During the Soviet-Afghan War, Tāluqān suffered extensive damage due to bombing campaigns and saw significant fighting between Soviet forces and mujahideen fighters. Despite ongoing security challenges in neighboring provinces, Tāluqān has been relatively stable in recent years.
The city is well-known for its beautiful gardens which have been maintained since ancient times. Visitors can also explore the main bazaar where they can find traditional crafts such as carpets, Embroidered fabrics, Pottery as well as fresh fruits and vegetables grown in nearby fields. One notable historical site near Taloqan is Takht-e Rustam fortress which dates back to pre-Islamic times when it served as a strategic military outpost for Persian emperors who ruled over this region.
