Noteable History

1. The Chilean government founded Temuco in 1881 with the intention of using it as a strategic town for the colonization and integration of the Mapuche people.
2. The Mapuche Resistance spanned from 1861 to 1883 and was marked by numerous conflicts between indigenous Mapuche people and the Chilean state. This period saw the emergence of several notable leaders, including Lautaro, Caupolicán, Galvarino, and others.
3. The Battle of Kutralcura took place in 1557 when Pedro de Valdivia’s Spanish forces were defeated by Mapuche warriors led by Lautaro.
4. German immigrants arrived in Temuco during the late 19th century and played a significant role in shaping its culture and economy.

1. Deportes Temuco: Founded in 1960, this is the most popular football club in Temuco. They have played in the Chilean Primera División for several seasons and won two Copa Chile titles.
2. Club Social y Deportivo Colo-Colo de Temuco: Established as a subsidiary of the famous Colo-Colo from Santiago in 1979, this club has played several seasons in the second division of Chilean football and won promotion to Primera B for the first time ever.
