Debre Mark’os is a city in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, Situated on a plateau 2, 384 meters above sea level. Its name means Mount St. Mark, Referring to a nearby mountain with religious significance. Founded in the 16th century by Emperor Susenyos as his capital before moving it to Gondar, Debre Mark’os played an important role in Ethiopian history as a military base and center for trade and commerce. One of its most significant landmarks is an Orthodox Christian church dating back to the 18th century dedicated to Saint Mark.
