Karamay is a city in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China. It is renowned for its vast oil reserves, And the name Karamay means black oil in Uyghur. The city was founded in 1955 after an oil field was discovered nearby, And it has since grown into a major industrial hub with a population of over 400, 000 people. The petroleum industry accounts for approximately two-thirds of Karamay’s GDP, Making it heavily reliant on this sector. The city’s buildings are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions such as sandstorms and high winds that are common in this region.
