Qianxi is a county situated in the northern part of Guizhou Province, China. It is located at the intersection of Sichuan, Chongqing and Guizhou provinces and covers an area of about 2, 970 square kilometers with a population of approximately 350, 000 people. Qianxi is renowned for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. One of the most popular attractions in Qianxi is Huangguoshu Waterfall on Baishui River. This waterfall stands at a height of 77.8 meters with a width of 101 meters and is one of the largest waterfalls in Asia.

Noteable History

  1. In 1907, a group of peasants led by Liang Zhongkan staged an uprising against the corrupt local officials in Qianxi known as the Qianxi Uprising.
  2. Zhang Xueliang, a famous warlord and military leader, was born in Qianxi in 1901.
  3. Huang Wenbi was a renowned calligrapher and painter who lived during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) and was born in Qianxi.
  4. Cai Yuanpei served as the president of Peking University from 1916 to 1926. He was also an educator, philosopher, and politician who was born in Qianxi.
  5. The Great Wall passes through Qianxi County where visitors can see some of its most well-preserved sections.
  6. The Yuhuang Pavilion is located on Mount Yuhuang and is considered one of the most important cultural landmarks in Qianxi due to its ancient history.
