  1. The Battle of Miyajima occurred in 1555 near Yato between the Mōri clan and Ōuchi clan, with the former emerging victorious, marking a turning point in their rise to power.
  2. Kiyomori Taira was a powerful samurai who lived during the Heian period (794-1185) and built several temples in Yato, including Jigo-ji Temple.
  3. Jigo-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple founded by Kiyomori Taira known for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture.
  4. On August 6th, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima about 20 miles from Yato causing widespread devastation.
  5. Sadako Sasaki survived the atomic bombing but later developed leukemia due to radiation exposure. She became famous for folding 1,000 paper cranes to make a wish for peace before passing away at age 12.
